Our Team
#TeamGrandview includes volunteers, committee and board members alongside clients and families. They are the best of the best and always ensure Grandview children and youth are a top priority.
Our Staff
Thank you, #TeamGrandview! You’ve always made us proud and been a group to look up to. We value you, and all you do each and every day to help. Even a global pandemic couldn’t stop you from stepping up. When Grandview couldn’t meet with families face to face, our team set up space in their own homes to go virtual, providing therapy services and giving a sense of normalcy to our clients amid the uncertainty.

Volunteers
Thank you to our incredible volunteers. Volunteers from all walks of life help with therapy groups, at our welcome centre, fundraising and providing guidance as board members. Over 180 volunteers provided over 7000 hours of service to Grandview.
Volunteer Spotlight : Vicki Caume
Volunteer since October 2017
Vicki Caume has been volunteering with Grandview Children’s Centre and Campbell Children’s School since October 2017 after retiring as a special education teacher. Grandview has been a part of Vicki’s life for quite some time. “My first son was born with a number of developmental challenges and we were often involved with Grandview for his care,” she explained.
For Vicki, to go from working in an education setting to volunteering at Grandview, just seemed natural. “When I retired from teaching, I immediately realized that I missed being around children and quickly thought of Grandview,” she said.
Creating positive experiences for the children and setting them up for success in their lives is what sparks joy in her volunteering experiences. At the end of the day, it is the children that she gets to work with that keep her around. “It’s the kids that make volunteering so enjoyable. Their enthusiasm, their eagerness to try new things, their perseverance.
Whether I am volunteering at the Campbell Children’s School or with one of the recreational programs, the kids are always so much fun,” she delights. It is clear that Vicki is passionate for this type of work and excels in this environment. We would like to express our gratitude for all the good that she does: thank you, Vicki!

All these efforts clearly prove that the love of a child knows no bounds … and often helps build a community.
Family Advisory Committee
Grandview’s Family Advisory Committee (FAC) continued to grow in 2019 expanding to 19 members and extending its reach to each one of our sites across Durham Region.
The FAC acts as a resource to the Centre Board of Trustees and the CEO, enabling families to have a voice regarding strategic decisions. In 2019/20, the FAC offered several opportunities for families of Grandview Kids to network, including our annual Family picnic, supporting the Accessible trick or treating event, and the annual Sensory Santa event and hosted our first (hopefully of many) Family Resource Fair in partnership with the City of Oshawa.
In order to expand our work and focus on the areas we are passionate about, we have evolved into 4 subcommittees. Members work in the areas of Policy & Procedures, the New Build, Education & Networking and Events.

Youth Advisory Committee
Members of the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) include current clients, siblings and grads from 12-25 years old. This motivated group of youth work to host inclusive events for Grandview families as well as taking the lead on including our very popular Annual Accessible Halloween event at the Safety Village.
YAC offers members an opportunity to provide feedback to our CEO, Lorraine Sunstrum-Mann on topics that affect our clients as well as earn valuable volunteer hours. The YAC also supports the Foundation by volunteering at fundraising events such as Celebrity Server nights.
Transform the client and family experience across all life stages
Grandview’s Youth Advisory Committee or YAC, consists of clients, sibling’s and Grandview grads aged 12-25 years old.
Over the past year, they have partnered with RBC to host an all day “Hackathon”. Dubbed the YAC Hack, members learned how to program apps. During this team building activity, groups created an app they felt would help the Grandview community.
They continued their tradition of hosting an Accessible Halloween event for Grandview families, welcoming 200 more guests than last year!
As the result of their hard work, the YAC was awarded a City of Oshawa award for improving accessibility and inclusivity in their city.
